Richard qualified in Manchester in 1988 and then did his GP training in Manchester and Rochdale. He also spent 18 months as a GP in Nigeria. He has been a partner in the practice since 1994. He has represented GPs in West Yorkshire on the BMA’s GP committee since 2001 and is currently the chair of the committee. He is also a nationally elected member of the BMA Council as well as working for GPs in Leeds as the assistant secretary of Leeds Local Medical Committee. As part of these roles he regularly does TV, radio and newspaper interviews.
Richard is married with two sons and enjoys walking and gardening.
